Nearly 25,000 Left Without Power in Queensland and Victoria Following Powerful Weather Systems

Approximately 25,000 homes in Queensland's southeast woke up experiencing outages on Monday's dawn after intense storm systems impacted the region, producing wind gusts topping 109km/h.

Massive Hailstones and Broad Destruction

Residents reported large ice chunks reaching sizes of 7cm in some areas. Meteorological experts confirmed that different parts across Queensland had been affected by significant hail.

Emergency crews were focused on reestablishing electricity service throughout the impacted areas, with dozens of response units working to manage the widespread outages.

Victorian Climate Difficulties

Meanwhile, nearly one thousand energy customers in Victoria also experienced electricity disruptions after Melbourne recorded its most precipitation in 18 months.

Rescue organizations responded to 598 requests for assistance across the region, primarily for property damage but also for fallen timber and inundation.

Wyndham region - 179 emergency requests

During the peak on yesterday, in excess of twenty-eight thousand power users in the state were experiencing outages.

Climate Outlook

Damp conditions were expected to linger along significant areas of eastern Queensland this week as a atmospheric system continued to draw in moisture against the coastal areas.

Tuesday was predicted as the heaviest precipitation period, with ongoing thunderstorm potential anticipated across different parts of both regions.

Health Warning

Medical authorities alerted that there was an increased chance of weather-related respiratory issues across the countryside regions, particularly given the existing atmospheric conditions.

This caution comes after past events where comparable situations led to substantial respiratory problems in the state.
