An individual who laced treats with tranquilliser and gave them to minors at a summer camp in the area has admitted sexual crimes against two boys who were between nine and ten.
The accused was arrested after eight youngsters and a grown-up experienced illness at the facility in mid-summer.
The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, pleaded guilty to a multiple criminal counts when he was present at the judicial center on Friday.
Yet, he refused to admit a single sexual charge he was accused of, which was against a nine-year-old boy.
The accused was held in detention before a additional proceeding on 28 November.
The legal representative, handling the case, detailed Ruben's offending to the court.
She said his targets were disadvantaged youngsters who were staying at a summer camp which he operated.
The man engaged in a "treat game" with the minors, the prosecutor explained, in which he would access the children's bedrooms when they were preparing to sleep and request they to eat sweets "rapidly".
She informed the proceedings the defendant had played this game with the young males "repeatedly", and children had previously fallen ill the following morning.
She stated the man had been capable of justifying this over a long period as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his family member had suspicions in summer 2025.
The legal representative added: "This year his stepchild had worries about the situation, for good reason.
"They chose" to have a look in the man's possessions."
Mrs Prior KC said materials including lubricant, ointment and medical needles were found, and his family member contacted the law enforcement about his suspicions.
She stated Ruben proceeded to play the "treat game" with six children that evening - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the subsequent day.
"The police had not responded by that stage," she added.
The police watchdog, the police conduct office, previously told that it was investigating the police response of the situation.
The legal representative said the minors were struggling to walk due to their condition, so the family member contacted the law enforcement again.
She said the man then played the "treat game" in a space of five youngsters.
